Old Mugdock Road, Strathblane | Bespoke Dwelling

Our scope for this project was to design a bespoke house for our clients on this beautiful countryside site in Strathblane. The brief was to design a house that had an modern, bright and spacious feel whilst still being traditional in its overall aesthetic, to allow it to sit within its surrounding rural landscape.

The house itself is designed around an ‘L’ shape footprint, with the main functional spaces - such as study, TV room and bedrooms - all situated within the main body of the house, which allowed the rear wing to be dedicated to the heart of the home; the feature open-plan kitchen, living and dining space. This rear wing has a double-height vaulted ceiling with feature full-height picture window looking out over the countryside, as well as a large adjoining covered terrace, accessed through glass sliding doors, complete with outside kitchen, to immerse the homeowners in the countryside and to enjoy a usable and flexible indoor-outdoor space. A feature double-height entrance hallway, with views straight through the house to the rear, connects the homeowners to all aspects of the house as soon as you enter the space.

Externally, a simple and refined palette of materials was carefully selected to reflect the rural character of the area: smooth off-white render, traditional stonework and larch cladding combine to create a warm and familiar look.
