Ravelston House Road, Edinburgh | Bespoke Dwelling
The general design principle for Ralston Avenue was to create a house that carries an overall traditional form, recognisable within the wider streetscape, but in a more modern style through use of careful details, use of feature glazing and material choices.
As such, the dwelling will be finished in a smooth render as the principal material, with feature zinc panels to key areas and timber cladding to the rear single storey element. Large feature window proportions in black frames are used to bring in modern elements as a cue to surrounding dwelling design, as well as creating double-height vaulted ceilings internally to the bedroom spaces.
Internally, the ground floor creates a large modern layout with two more formal rooms to the front of the property, with large entrance hallway leading to the large open-plan kitchen, living and dining space. The entrance hallway features a double-height gallery landing connecting the two levels of the house. Additionally, a self-contained granny annex forms part of the ground floor, to the rear of the garage. On the upper level, four large bedrooms and home office completes this modern family home.
