Cleveden Drive, Glasgow West End | Extension & Alterations
Our scope was to reinstate the full ground floor of the main house by reintroducing historical separation points and redefining the clear split between the two properties. In doing so, we seek to open up the rooms to the rear of the main house to create a flexible kitchen, living and dining area. As part of these works, and to allow a connection from the main house to the rear courtyard garden, the existing kitchen window be converted into a glazed timber framed traditional style double door. A large corniche domed roof light will sit behind the parapet wall allowing views to the outside and creating a real sense of indoor-outdoor living. To the side of the main house, it is proposed to erect a traditional style sandstone orangery extension which will provide additional living space.
MEWS HOUSE
Externally, we look to use blonde sandstone to match the existing wall and mews house as the primary material to ground the extension into its surroundings. The roof, too, continues the existing slate pitched roof over the extension to the mews, forming a cohesive extension to the existing building mass. The drawing uses zinc to the upper section of the rear elevation, and black stained timber to the upper windows, the entrance doors and the gate set within the ground floor ‘wall’ elevation.
Internally, the extension to the mews allows the ground floor to be opened up to create a more modern kitchen, dining and living space, new feature staircase and double height gallery library, as well as separate home office space. New feature sliding doors opens the ground floor out into the private mews garden as well as bringing in lots of natural light.
